 Social Security Income? 

 

Social Security Disability Insurance(SSDI) are benefits for people who are found to be disabled and have worked and contributed to the Social Security System. In order to qualify for SSDI an individual must have enough credits in the system. In this case of benefits of widows or parents, the same criteria must be met. The Social Security Administration determines who is eligible through factors including: number of credits, age and the year in which your disability occurred. SSDI recipients receives Medicaid coverage after receiving 24 months of disability benefits.


Supplemental Security Income (SSI) provides financial assistance to individuals who are 65+ years or older, blind or disabled with limited income and resources. Once and individual has qualified for SSI, they will automatically qualify for Medicaid. 


If you have are disabled, have a work history, but have limited resources, you may qualify for both SSDI and SSI. This type of claim is known at a concurrent claim.
